History

The airport facilities were constructed in 1942 to be an operating airfield for the United States. Force of Air. Named McCoy Air Force Base, it served until the 1960s, when larger civilian flights were allowed to land there, as a purely military operation. The airfield was completely converted into a civilian airport in 1976 and became Orlando International Airport (MCO). Its close proximity to several major cities and tourist destinations has helped make it Florida’s second busiest airport and the 13th busiest in the United States. Every year, more than 80 airlines and about 30 million passengers travel to 100 national and international locations. Terminals A on the north side and B on the south side are separated by the main building.
