6 Tips That Will Keep Wildlife Away From Your Property

Why Does Florida Wildlife Keep on Returning To My Yard?

You may have found yourself asking this question many times after experiencing some trouble with common garden wreckers such as opossums, racoons, armadillo’s roof rats, pocket gophers or maybe you just keep on seeing a lot of snakes in your property or around your yard. As we all know florida is growing at an extremely rapid rate causing a high demand for more property. More property means more disrupted wildlife habitats. Whenever a piece of land is taken away it causes the animals to flee and find a new home to call home.

Will I Get in Trouble For Poisoning Wildlife?

We get asked this question a lot. Al thought wildlife such as coyotes, bobcats and wolfs can be a huge threat to not only a farmer but to a pet or even a small child. The answer is still yes. We NEVER recommend using poison on any kind of animals because it can easily effect other wildlife. With each animal

7 TIPS to Keep Wildlife Away From Your Property

Tip 1: Mow your Lawn

You’ve probably heard this multiple times and you will continue to until you cut that tall grass. This is a huge welcoming door for smaller animals such as snakes, armadillo’s, opposums, raccoons and gophers and everyone’s favorite baby bunnies. These smaller animals have come to realize that tall grass is extremely easy to hide in and make sure to take complete advantage of it. It is also important to keep this in mind next time you mow your lawn.

Tip 2: Keep Your Dog/pet food indoors or inside a screened area.

Have you ever noticed raccoons pooping in your pool and constantly lurking around your property at night? Most of the times this happens because of a steady food source. If your pet happens to not eat their entire bowl in one sitting the raccoons sure will at night. We have come to realize that raccoons, opossums, foxes and other wildlife are attracted to pet food.

Tip 3: Lock your trash bins

We all know animals have a much better sense of smell than humans do. This allows them to navigate themselves to the nearest smelly snack. Our trash isn’t the best smelling thing in the world but to a hungry animal this is like smelling a fresh pie sitting on a windowsill. there are multiple ways to locking your trash bin lid. The easiest way i can recommend is by grabbing a bungee cord with hooks on each end and latching it from one side to the other with the cord sitting across on top of the lid.

Tip 4: Keep bird feeders away from your property

Have you ever caught a squirrel eating out of your bird feeder? We think they’re cut and adorable little fuzzy animals until the begin to chew and gnaw their way through your roof or begin to tear off pieces of your roof. They do not do this on purpose but simply because their teeth need to grow healthy and strong and what better way to do that than by gnawing some some good ol’ wood.

Tip 5: keep your lawn clean and away from cluster.

Cluster is one way to get loads of wildlife around your yard. Whatever it may be a old car, a old boat, some junk from a storm these all make excellent homes for raccoons, Even bunches of sticks, wooden logs or stones of cement.

Tip 6: Next time you pull up to your home try to look at what tree branches are next to your roof. Those are perfect ways that a squirrel, Raccoon or opossum can find it’s way onto your home.
